Updated : Aug 25, 2025

Varun Dhawan, earlier in his career, remade Ram Pothineni's Kandireega as Main Tera Hero, which established his comic timing post successful debut with Student of the Year. His films did have inspiration from South Indian films but he did not remake a complete film, extensively.

But his next film with Janhvi Kapoor in leading lady role, Sunny Sanskari ki Tulsi Kumari, seems to be a complete remake of Ala Modalayyindi. The movie release date has been announced today and the movie caption reads, "Two Heart-Breakers One Wicked Plan" and "Revenge Never Looked this festive".

They point at the movie being about both the leads going through heart-break and dishing out a revenge plan to get back at their exes. This is the plot of Natural Star Nani's Ala Modalayyindi. Even some of the first promotional material as similar vibe to it from this 17-year old film.

Shashank Kaitan, who made films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath ki Dulhania with Varun is directing this film. Shashank is known for ripping off South Indian films and hence, this people are doubting if this film also is a remake. Karan Johar is producing the film with Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf in other leading roles. Movie is releasing for 2nd October.
